Crackbacks Are Still Illegal Even If You're Brett Favre

Memo to the Legendary One: if you intend to hit someone below the waist from behind, you should expect a fine and - potentially - payback. You're not above the rules and you're not above retribution.

You make the call. Illegal or just "youthful exuberance?"

  1. Thing is, the video - especially the view on the last replay - makes it clear just how late he went low. That is what is most damning to me. He had every opportunity to hit the guy clean above the waist. It would have been a near blind hit - but still perfectly clean & legal because he could easily have hit him in the front. Instead, last second he dives down directly at the knees from the side.

And no - in all his years with the Packers, he never made a hit like this. Cutting a guy from the front like he occasionally did on reverse/end around plays is one thing - you have a moment to protect yourself. Cutting a guy from the side on a blind crack-back block is both illegal and dirty.
